Why Join Troop 85

Boy Led Troop

Our troop is a boy led troop, under adult supervision. The scouts vote to decide where to go for trips, they plan and lead weekly meetings. Organization and direction is done almost entirely by the scouts. If you have ever been in a group run by adults and wished you had a voice in what happened then this is the place for you!

Monthly Troop Outings

Each month from September thru June the troop plans an outing. Some are day trips and some are weekend trips. We visit amazing places like caverns, theme parks, zoos, museums, and parks to hike. In the warmer months we tent camp, and in the cooler months we get cabins. The scouts pick the locations and plan the events. Before we go, the scouts plan the menu. At the event the scouts setup camp and cook the food.

Summer Camp

Every year, our troop goes to summer camp at places like Camp Scouthaven and Camp Gorton. The scouts get to spend an entire week away from their parents and learn valuable life skills. While there they earn merit badges, have free time to take advantage of the many amenities of the camp, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Learn Life Skills

As a Boy Scout you will have the opportunity to better yourself in a variety of ways. Leadership skills can be honed by taking on smaller troop positions or accelerated by taking on the higher raking positions. Helping others is a core trait of any boy scout.  As a scout you will have many chances to gain service hours to rank up, help other boy scouts with their eagle projects, and when a scout accomplishes their eagle scout project for the community. Along the way you will will learn first aid, financial budgeting, fitness training, survival skills, among many other things that will help you throughout your life now and later.
