About Us

Troop 85 is regarded throughout the area as the light of Scouting. We are one of the oldest troops in the Western New York Scout Council and have been in service to the community for over 76 years. Troop 85 is chartered out of the Newman Center at UB. We meet at the Williamsville United Methodist Church in Williamsville, New York. Our troop is regarded throughout the area as the premiere example of what Lord Baden-Powell envisioned Scouting to be over 100 years ago.

As a troop, we travel around the country and abroad. Recent trips include the Thousand Islands, Ithaca, Lincoln Caverns, Cleveland, Cedar Point, and the Erie Canal. All trips are planned out by the youth leadership with occasional advice and recommendations from the qualified adult leadership. Troop 85’s Scouts attend Williamsville East, North, and South high schools. The Scouts also attend Casey, Heim, Mill, and Transit middle schools.

Scoutmaster Stephen C. Dubois

Eagle Scout Steve Dubois is now entering his 46th year with Troop 85 and his 33rd as Scoutmaster. Mr. Dubois is commonly known to everyone - including the youth - as just “Steve.” He is an exhibiting painter, music composer, professional graphic artist, and an astronomy educator. He currently resides in Williamsville, NY.

Scoutmaster Steve is Wood Badge trained (the only vigorous, uniformed adult leader training internationally) and has been awarded the Scouter Leader's Award of Merit, Training Award, Scouter's Key, District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver. He has also served on two Wood Badge staffs and is a James E. West Fellow. In 2011, Steve was named one of the Top 50 Scoutmasters in the nation and attended the National Conference of the BSA in San Diego.
